Tune In, Stride Out

In the relentless pursuit of distance, ultrarunners often encounter swollen feet. With the R1, your toes can relax and enjoy the ride thanks to our wide toe box and broad platform, and the TUNEDFIT™ Dual Lacing System offers customizable fit for the forefoot and midfoot separately.

Experience the Consistency

To create the smoothest possible ride, Mount to Coast looked to the automotive industry to create ZeroSag™, our groundbreaking midsole insert co-developed with BASF. Durable, comfortable and offering impeccable energy return at any temperature, ZeroSag™ guarantees extraordinary cushioning on the longest runs.

The Road to Enlightenment

LightCELL™, our proprietary midsole base material, starts as a unique hybrid compound before being charged with pure nitrogen to create a supercritical foam. The result is a material that is 50 percent lighter than EVA, while offering 45 percent more energy return.

R1p up the Record Books

In the spring of 2024, before the shoe’s official launch, British ultrarunner Justin Montague took one pair of R1s to the northernmost point of Scotland to run the JOGLE, a multistage ultra to the most southerly tip of England. Over 17 daily stages he ran 854 miles (1,374 km) setting a time that was almost 40 hours faster than the previous record, and he broke each day’s individual stage record along the way.

That result was just a warm up. Since then, the R1 has guided athletes to countless personal, national and world bests, culminating in two of ultrarunning’s most prestigious records. First in spring 2025, US runner Meg Eckert covered 603 miles to shatter the women’s six-day world record. Then, less than a month later, Belgian endurance athlete Matthieu Bonne broke the 29-year-old 48-hour world record with 301 miles. Records are there to be broken and the R1 is here to R1p them up.

Best shoe I’ve had in a long time🤗👟

I think the R1R is One of the best shoes I have ever had!

I went in to my London Marathon training block with a sore hip, so I got the R1R to help and it did! I use them about 80% of the time on the runs and especially on 30K or longer runs. They have helped tremendously. I don’t feel beat up in the legs as much after. I think it’s one of those magic shoes for me 🤗👟 so I stocked up and got 4 more pairs.
I would highly recommend them!

Believe the hype

I was cautiously optimistic about these shoes and all the hype they've been getting. Once I laced them up and hit the pavement I knew I was going to love them.
Out of the box they're ready to go! The dual lacing system locked my heel and midfoot in while leaving my toes plenty of space to spread out. I wasn't certain the toe box would be wide enough (I normally wear a certain big brand with a famously shaped toe box) but I had plenty of space with no cramped feeling or rubbing. I purchased a size 11 in the men's, since they did not have a 12.5 in women's. No issues with wearing a men's vs a women's in this shoe that I can tell. Everything lines up the way it should. So far I've done some easy miles and some speedwork with them and am confident that I'll put LOTS of miles on these shoes this year. I'm excited to see just how long they hold up!
(P.S. the free beanie that came with them was a nice bonus! It's fleece lined around the bottom so your ears stay warm, but the top is fleece-free so your head can breath!)

Disappointing Durability

I was initially excited to try the Mount to coast shoes due to their promising design and features. However, I was deeply disappointed by their lack of durability. The footfoot adjustment mechanism broke on only my third attempt at wearing them. For a product that markets itself as a premium shoe built for performance, this is completely unacceptable.

I expected much better quality from Mounttocoast, and it’s frustrating that something as critical as the fit adjustment failed so quickly. This kind of issue undermines the trust in the brand and its products. I cannot recommend this model to anyone seeking reliable footwear, as it seems they are not built to last even a (very) short time.

My new go to shoe.

After much research and debating I decided to give Mount to Coast at try. Let me just say wow! I ordered the R1R’s (12.5) and have put in 3 runs totaling 25 miles in them. Each shoe weighs a mere 10.6oz. in the 12.5. My favorite feature is the toe box and mid foot lacing. Having those isolated are a game changer. They are getting better after every run. Went out for 17 this morning and have zero complaints. Looking forward to running a marathon in the R1R’s in December and then a multi day event in July. I did personalize mine a bit by replacing the mid foot laces with black lock laces. This gave me a much better feel on the top half and added some color to them.

Best running shoes in a while

I bought these not knowing if they were the real deal or just a social media hyped product. I am happy to say these shoes are worth every penny. I had Achilles tendon soreness recently wearing Brooks and Nike, and Hokas have never fit my feet. The R1Rs are amazing and solved my tendon pain so far. I will buy again but have one request - please include a pair of longer laces for people like me who prefer not having the dual lacing system. I could never get the shoe evenly tightened with all the different laces but changed them out for some “normal” laces and the shoes are now perfect.

So Far So Good!

I ordered a size 11 R1R. I normally wear an 11 or 11.5 in other brands and they seem to fit well. True to size. I expected them to be a little more bouncy out of the box but they are still very comfortable right away. I run about 15 miles per week but I don’t typically run more than 6 miles at a time. I’m hoping these shoes push me further! So far I’ve run a 5k and then a 10k and my legs and feet feel good. I typically go for plush and bouncy soled running shoes so these are a bit of a change for me, but I’m still a big fan. (Maybe the R1s without rubber are more plush?) I have no tried the original R1s, but the R1Rs still feel pretty light and are very quiet. The top laces are kind of grippy and they hold their position very well, and the bottom laces are easy to adjust if you need a wider toe box. I disagree with other reviews saying there is no break in period, but I still think they are fairly comfortable to start. It feels like they take about a mile or so to break in each run and then it’s pretty much smooth sailing. Hoping they completely break in over the next couple of weeks. They feel very durable and I can tell they are going to last a long time. I’m excited for future Mount To Coast products and what else they come up with. We want hats, trail shoes, and performance apparel!

Ultra Fun

1st run down in the R1R. They feel great. Tons of adjustability, well built, and smooth & responsive ride. Weight is spot on. Not one thing I would change. Looking forward to logging some ultra miles. I have a 12 hour endurance race soon and these will be in the race kit. Bravo team - glad I took a chance on a new product/company. These will be in the rotation going forward. They kinda remind me of the original Hoka Carbon X except the upper is much better build. (this is a good thing). Simple fast shoe for training/ultras.

They fit true to size and love the double lace adjust-ability. Cannot wait to get them ultradirty! ;)

800+ miles and a very happy dog

I have a high energy dog that needs to walk at least 5-6 miles a day to act semi-civilized and prior to buying these I was going through pairs of shoes like crazy. Bought these because they were advertised as durable and they have definitely lived up to their claims. When I first got them I was very pleasantly surprised with how light and comfortable they were. I’m now well over 800 miles in these shoes and have decided this will be their last season. We do a mix of road and trail, walking and running and I can’t wait to get a fresh pair for next spring!

Heel counter too stiff/rigid

I have put in 50 miles to the shoes, and I have been noticing some achilles tenderness each time I run with it, the very back of this heel counter doesn't have this V shape ,unlike some other shoes that I have, oh well

Wanted to love these shoes

I am all for new running brands to hit the market and create good competition with the entrenched brands. I was excited to see these shoes as I thought they looked great and I really wanted to embrace the ultrarunning branding. I am an average marathon runner and I have run a 50K ultramarathon as well. I find these shoes to be very difficult to run long distances in. It may be related to my foot shape as I have relatively flat feet but for whatever reason, these shoes make the arches on my feet so sore after a few miles. I have put 140 miles on these shoes so far and I think I have to give up on them. I wanted to love these shoes but they just hurt my feet during and after the run. I have done double digit miles in these shoes once or twice with medium discomfort and now I am finding that even on my shorter 4 to 6 mile runs, they are hurting my feet. This doesn't happen in any of my other shoes so it is very disappointing. I wanted to love these shoes but they're not for me.

Mount to coast R1R shoes

Love my R1R shoes especially the fact of no break in period needed. They really make me look forward to run in daily and especially on my next eventt. Looking forward to an opportunity of trying mount to coast other models of shoes. Thanks for making such a great pair of shoes.

Return/exchange process

The shoes seem awesome but runs a bit big so have to exchange. Unfortunately the process is much more complicated than other brands.

Needs to be slightly wider, install elastic lace instead

The sole is comfortable as advertised, but the toe box of the R1 and the other models still needs to be wider. Also, for the R1, install an elastic lace at the front for better suspension when running versus the rope-type lace that is installed now.
