Size Measuring Guide
A perfect fit for your ultra-marathon running shoes is important for comfort and performance. Follow these tips to measure your foot size at home:
General Tips:
- Measure your feet at the end of the day as they're at their largest due to swelling.
- In between sizes? One foot is bigger than the other? Take the larger size.
- It's best to measure every year. Your size could change over time.
What You'll Need:
- A piece of paper larger than your foot,
- A pen or pencil,
- A ruler or measuring tape,
- Socks of the thickness you'll wear with the shoes.
Steps:
- Stand on the paper in the socks you'll wear with the shoes.
- Use the pen or pencil to mark the end of your longest toe and the back of your heel. It's important to measure both feet as their size can vary.
- Match your measurements to our size chart to find the best fit. If you're between sizes, we suggest choosing the larger size for better comfort.

In the relentless pursuit of distance, ultrarunners often encounter swollen feet. With the R1, your toes can relax and enjoy the ride thanks to our wide toe box and broad platform, and the TUNEDFIT™ Dual Lacing System offers customizable fit for the forefoot and midfoot separately.
To create the smoothest possible ride, Mount to Coast looked to the automotive industry to create ZeroSag™, our groundbreaking midsole insert co-developed with BASF. Durable, comfortable and offering impeccable energy return at any temperature, ZeroSag™ guarantees extraordinary cushioning on the longest runs.
LightCELL™, our proprietary midsole base material, starts as a unique hybrid compound before being charged with pure nitrogen to create a supercritical foam. The result is a material that is 50 percent lighter than EVA, while offering 45 percent more energy return.
A Return to Self
Running is more than movement. It’s a return to something deeper. The Agave colorway is inspired by the endurance traditions of those who ran before us: the messengers, the nomads who understood that every step was an offering. One that represents rebirth, resilience, and energy.

I got my shoes on a Friday evening and ran 8 miles the next morning. Right out of the box and these felt AMAZING! The cushion and support is what I was looking for. No tired legs after my run. I plan on wearing these on all my long runs.
I’m only a few days in, but I am very pleased so far. I have high arches so the back half of my foot is narrow, but I need a wider toe box… It is a difficult combination to find, but the R1 seems to strike the perfect balance. Wide, roomy toe box, arch support that I can actually feel, and a nice snug fit at the opening that locks in my heel and doesn’t leave awkward gaps around my ankle. I also love the dual lacing system and look forward to putting more miles on them!
Two clarifications to start with:
1. I did not receive these as a promotion. I did win them at a race, and I was searching for new shoes anyway. Free is free, so I thought I'd give them a try.
2. I mainly do trail running, so I haven't run any long distance runs in these.
I've been running in a zero drop shoe for a while, but unfortunately, zero drop just doesn't work with my feet. The R1s feel very comfortable without feeling too clunky. I've found it hard to pick up speed in them for strides, hill sprints, etc, but that isn't surprising given that they're meant for long distance endurance running.
While they are true to size, they are more narrow than I'd like. The toe box is on the wider side, but it's not as wide as other shoes like Altras. They're also a bit more narrow in the mid-foot for my liking. That being said, I don't find them so narrow that they're uncomfortable- they're good enough for every day 1 - 2 hour runs. I'd just like to see Mount to Coast to come out with wider shoes :)
Overall, I'm happy with my R1s, and I can see myself running many miles in them.
Very comfortable out of the box. Quick four mile run then the next day 20 miles. Could be a bit more snappy but the cushion is great and the toe box room is wonderful.
I loved the R1 shoes. Indeed, they are very comfortable, and I can see myself running many miles in them. I'm very confident this shoe is capable to last in good shape for more than 500 miles.
