R1p up the Record Books

In the spring of 2024, British ultrarunner Justin Montague took one pair of R1s to the northernmost point of Scotland to run the JOGLE, a multistage ultra to the most southerly tip of England. Over 17 daily stages he ran 854 miles (1,374 km) setting a time that was almost 40 hours faster than the previous record, and he broke each day’s individual stage record along the way.

Experience the Consistency

To create the smoothest possible ride, Mount to Coast looked to the automotive industry to create ZeroSag, our groundbreaking midsole insert co-developed with BASF. Durable, comfortable and offering impeccable energy return at any temperature, ZeroSag guarantees extraordinary cushioning on the longest runs.

The Road to Enlightenment

LightCELL, our proprietary midsole base material, starts as a unique PEBA-hybrid compound before being charged with pure nitrogen to create a supercritical foam. The result is a material that is 50 percent lighter than EVA, while offering 45 percent more energy return.

Stay in the Flow State

GOFLOW is our industry-leading midsole geometry, designed to keep your feet tracking from heel to toe. With GOFLOW, you can stay in that flow state for longer, and enjoy your natural stride.

Tune In, Stride Out

In the relentless pursuit of distance, ultrarunners often encounter swollen feet. With the R1, your toes can relax and enjoy the ride thanks to our wide toe box and broad platform, and the TUNEDFIT Dual Lacing System offers customizable fit for the forefoot and midfoot separately.

Immediate Comfort and Love for the R1

Straight out of the box, the shoes look amazing and professional, something more people should be considering. (This Twilight color is especially great looking!)

First run was such a satisfying underfoot feeling. Each stride and step had such a quiet and smooth roll/transition through the LightCell foam. Very comfortable and can see myself logging a ton of miles in these! Very lightweight as well, more so than I was expecting them to be.

The packaging was very well thought out too and I love that they came with a drawstring bag, it's a nice touch!

Nailed it

These shoes have the features (duel lacing system) and the comfort to vault themselves to my #1 road shoe. Love how they feel... springy, easy to stride, breathable. I've been a stickler for shoes with a wide toe box, and these do great!

Bloody amazing!

I am what can be called a running shoe ****! I have tested and used many brands over the decades. I ran in Etonics back in the 90's, had a brief flirtation with the Nike Stab when it came out. Moved on to Brooks, then Asics and currently using Adidas. In between I have used Hoka, Altra and Topo. I had the R1 delivered to my hotel during a brief 3 day stay in the US. Ran 5 miles on the treadmill straight out the box, very comfortable. Woke up the next day, felt really fresh so tried an 8 miler mostly on concrete, absolutely no issues. 2 days rest and then an 11 mile slow run. I have never experienced a running shoe that was so easy to run in straight away, not overly soft which I like. Very stable throughout the run. It just seems to promote exactly the right gait. It is just a pure joy to run in, I felt a little like a kid again, just running for running sake. Everyone has their preferences when it comes to running shoes but I have to say that I have never had so much fun in a new pair of running shows. Thanks guys, I'm ordering the S1 now and probably another R1 because god forbid I'd hate for you run out lol

Been a Hoka loyalist.

I have been in Hoka for 10 years and have converted friends and family to Hoka over the years. I haven't done a whole lot of tests in them yet. Iie: ultras. But my early assessment is very positive and may convert ☺️
