R135

These shoes have blown me away. From the dual lacing system to the overall weight of the shoe. They feel like clouds on the feet. They fit my feet like a glove fits a hand. They’re perfect. I will definitely be a returning customer.

Ok I really really love these shoes. They have a nice bounce to them as you are running. They allow the foot to just be a foot. I haaaattteee road running. These have me actually looking forward to road running.

Before getting my first pair of R1’s, I debated for several months and I wish I had not waited like that. I wish I had these last year when I did my first 100-mile ultra. For such a young brand to create such a great distance shoe is really amazing. My favorite until now has been the Asics Gel Nimbus for long distance and, in my opinion, the R1 (and R135) are above those. Lighter weight, more durability, a well-made upper, and stellar foam under foot. If I could put the Nimbus knitted and gusetted tongue onto these, they’d be darn near perfect (just my personal preference). I’m looking forward to using the R135 for a 6-hour ultra and 46-mile ultra in August in the Florida heat. My first pair of R1’s took me through 10 hours during a solo fundraising run in June and if I hadn’t been feeling some heat stroke symptoms, they would have taken me to 12 hours of movement. The 2 zone lacing system works great for these type events leaving more than ample room for my swelling feet. I’m really glad I stopped debating and took the leap to get these! On the R135 specifically, I may like the design and color way better than my black and white R1’s!

Felt great out of the box - light and not at all hot

In general the P1 I got is much better. One thing about this one is the LUG unstable and it doesn’t go flat I don’t know if it’s a defect or the design I use it once and I don’t know if Mount to Coast can exchange it. It’s uncomfortable matter.

So there I was, casually hopping onto the Mount to Coast website—just minding my own business, looking to replace a beloved, battle-worn pair of R1s—and BOOM. Out of nowhere: the R135 Badwater Edition drops like a meteor of running glory. No warning. No teaser trailer. Just here it is, now try not to scream. Spoiler: I screamed. And then I clicked that order button like it was a race to the checkout line at a Black Friday doorbuster.

And let me tell you something… I snagged these stunners moments before the social media world caught wind. That’s right—beat the algorithm to the punch. That alone should earn me some kind of elite status, right?

Now let’s talk about what actually matters—the run. I laced these beauties up for a weekend long run that could only be described as a heatwave hustle. The kind of day where the sun is trying to boil your toenails off. But the R135? Cooler than a popsicle in a kiddie pool. That lightweight upper? Chef’s kiss. My feet felt breezy, supported, and strangely flattered—like the shoes themselves were saying, “Damn, Steve, look at us go.”

The updated design isn’t just sleek—it’s got attitude. The pops of color, the metallic silver hits? This is race day flash meets long-haul grit. It screams high performance with a wink. And the comfort? Look, I’ve run in a lot of shoes. I’ve broken up with a lot of shoes. But Mount to Coast keeps giving me that “maybe this is the one” feeling. Stable, responsive, with just the right amount of bounce—these shoes make you want to keep going, even when the miles get rude.

Let’s not forget the heritage here. The Badwater name isn’t slapped on lightly—it’s a tribute to endurance, grit, and chasing finish lines that most people can’t even see. The R135 embodies that spirit with every damn step. Whether you’re dodging heat waves or just trying to get through a long grind, these shoes are ready to roll.

Bottom line? The R135 Badwater Edition isn’t just a worthy successor to the R1—it’s a glow-up. A transformation. A shoe that says, “You’ve leveled up. Let’s go show the road what that means.”

On the Steve Scale? Five out of five stars, because anything less would be disrespectful.

I wanted to really love this shoe… I even clocked in 70+ miles in them just to make sure I wasn’t missing out on any break in period. I got an ad saying this newer brand Mount to Coast has a wider toe box, which is almost a non negotiable for me because of my wide forefoot.

First run was a 5k and it felt super nice! After another 2 weeks of training I started to notice something about the shoe that really bothered me and really stuck out to me while I ran. Anything above 5 miles I would start to feel hot spots on my arch area and forefoot. I also experienced a blistering crease on the right side of my big toe. For how light the material is, the toe guard isn’t very forgiving.

I thought to myself, maybe if I just keep going at it in these shoes then they’ll break in more with all these different technologies that I thought would be such a perfect fit for what running shoe I was looking for.

The one thing I absolutely loved about this shoe, and it kills me so much because the cons make it unwearable FOR ME is that the lightcell foam is PERFECT. Never have I experienced as much stability and responsiveness in any other shoe I’ve tried.

I’m definitely going back to my altras, even though they break apart more easily.

I love these. I'm kind of a shoe junkie. I had probably 40 pair of running shoes (easy, tempo, race, trail, etc). I bought these and a pair of T1s. After running in them, I gave away every other pair with the exception on my short distance race shoes. I have about 100 miles on each pair now and they're both still running like they did in the beginning. I can't say enough good things about this shoe and the company that makes it. Pull the trigger. You won't regret it.

The R1 Feels not so tied

I have been a runner for most of my life and have used a wide variety of shoes, and these are by far the most comfortable. My most recent, past few years, shoes have all been carbon plated shoes, and these pass those on every level. These are very comfortable and responsive on long runs, and have a good amount of return on sprint workouts. Will definitely be buying another pair when that time comes.

Incredible shoe for me. After 2 new hips I’ve been trying to find a shoe that allows me to walk/run again. Thank you R135! Let’s goooooooo!

In the humid heat of the south-these shoes are great. Breathable fabric help with the heat. Good combination with the R1. I hope this shoe becomes a regular product.

I noticed comments saying they just put it on and ran with these shoes. I didn’t believe it but WOW from opening the box to doing my first long run in them in the same day with no pain no blisters just amazing energy and a great feel on the feet. Love these and planning on getting the trail shoes next for my 50 miler ultra in September. Fits very true to size and measurements

The R135 is a pleasant ride, and very light. However, because of the reworked upper that doesn’t conform to your feet (like the regular R1 upper) my forefoot slips around inside the shoe, especially after several miles when I’m soaked with sweat. This may lead you to think about sizing down, but that would be a mistake because the length is a tiny bit shorter than normal, so that when my foot slips I often feel my toes riding on the front toe bumper, and that is an unpleasant feeling. I only have 30 miles so far, and I’m still trying to find the optimum lacing and adjustment. This is why I have listed the fit as ‘feels roomy’ while the size and width are normal.

It's nice to follow shoes that improve with every model, and couldn't be happier with my R135s. Lighter more breathable upper and nice cool colorway. Cheers!

As soon as I saw the R135's I had to order them. The Color way is so cool looking. My wife and I own 2 Pairs of S1's and we love them I have tried many different brands and not a single one has been able to go past the 175mile mark until Mount To Coast. My current pair has over 250 miles on them I weigh in at 215 lbs. they still feel great on all kinds of runs. I expect i can get another 150 miles no problem. . I'm sure the 135's will live up to my expectations and all the miles I'm fixing to throw at them.
