Size Measuring Guide
A perfect fit for your ultra-marathon running shoes is important for comfort and performance. Follow these tips to measure your foot size at home:
General Tips:
- Measure your feet at the end of the day as they're at their largest due to swelling.
- In between sizes? One foot is bigger than the other? Take the larger size.
- It's best to measure every year. Your size could change over time.
What You'll Need:
- A piece of paper larger than your foot,
- A pen or pencil,
- A ruler or measuring tape,
- Socks of the thickness you'll wear with the shoes.
Steps:
- Stand on the paper in the socks you'll wear with the shoes.
- Use the pen or pencil to mark the end of your longest toe and the back of your heel. It's important to measure both feet as their size can vary.
- Match your measurements to our size chart to find the best fit. If you're between sizes, we suggest choosing the larger size for better comfort.

R1p up the Record Books
In the spring of 2024, British ultrarunner Justin Montague took one pair of R1s to the northernmost point of Scotland to run the JOGLE, a multistage ultra to the most southerly tip of England. Over 17 daily stages he ran 854 miles (1,374 km) setting a time that was almost 40 hours faster than the previous record, and he broke each day’s individual stage record along the way.

Experience the Consistency
To create the smoothest possible ride, Mount to Coast looked to the automotive industry to create ZeroSag, our groundbreaking midsole insert co-developed with BASF. Durable, comfortable and offering impeccable energy return at any temperature, ZeroSag guarantees extraordinary cushioning on the longest runs.
The Road to Enlightenment
LightCELL, our proprietary midsole base material, starts as a unique hybrid compound before being charged with pure nitrogen to create a supercritical foam. The result is a material that is 50 percent lighter than EVA, while offering 45 percent more energy return.

Stay in the Flow State
GOFLOW is our industry-leading midsole geometry, designed to keep your feet tracking from heel to toe. With GOFLOW, you can stay in that flow state for longer, and enjoy your natural stride.

In the relentless pursuit of distance, ultrarunners often encounter swollen feet. With the R1, your toes can relax and enjoy the ride thanks to our wide toe box and broad platform, and the TUNEDFIT Dual Lacing System offers customizable fit for the forefoot and midfoot separately.

The R1/R1R provides runners with the low weight required for performance, with all the protection they need to run day after day in the longest ultra challenges.

The double-layered jacquard fabric combines outstanding softness and perfect fit for your feet. And you can breathe easy in the knowledge we use 40 percent recycled polyester.
Just purchased my 3rd pair. I have a wide toe bed, VERY high instep and skinny ankle. These are very light weight, responsive with a wide toe bed. Because of my high instep the forefoot and midfoot adjustability is a game changer for me! They are phenomenal right out of the box! The hype is REAL!
My perfect shoe. I have 3 active pair. Got about 600miles out of my first pair. Perfect for daily training. Works for 7min/mile as well as 10min/mile.
Believe the hype. These shoes almost feel like you’re not even wearing shoes. They feel like a hug on your feet. I went for a 10 mile run first day I had them and legs felt just fine after. Just did 15 miles today on the treadmill with them and they were fantastic. They’re also great for walking around in.
While I found these shoes very comfortable for a longer training run, I can also picture myself wearing them in a race or workout. They are light while still feeling supportive, and they handled a variety of terrain well. I rotate between these and the P1's and couldn't ask for a better combo!
I have demoed a lot of shoes trying to find a multipurpose shoe that I can use for everything. The R1s came through for me and checked all the boxes for what I was searching for. I currently have over 600 miles on my pair and they have lasted longer than any other shoe I've trained in. I have a narrow heel which the Mount to Coast R1s hugs perfectly without causing blisters from sliding. I have a wide forefoot and my feet swell on those long long runs. When wearing the R1s, I have had roomy space for my toes and totally solved any issues with numbness I've dealt with in other brands of shoes. I wore one pair of R1s through my entire 4 month marathon training block; and even was grabbing them for my walks and when I was headed to pick up my kids from school! I trained relentlessly doing speed workouts, track workouts, long runs, and everything inbetween, all in my R1s. I ended my training block with a race weekend that included a 5k PR, fun run with my kids on Saturday, and a marathon PR on Sunday.
After all that, I don't think I'm ready to retire them yet, and I'll keep adding up the miles. I've been injury free and feeling great, huge thanks to Mount to Coast for creating this magic shoe!!
