A Great Running Shoe

The Mount to Coast R1 has all the features needed to provide the most optimal running experience. I was looking for a good running shoe for some time, and stumbled upon the R1 through an advertisement on social media. After some research, I made the purchase, and it was worth every dollar. The shoes provide great stability while on distance runs and absorbs shock fantastically. A great shoe for any runner in my honest opinion. Highly recommend.

100 Miles out of the box

I had heard about Mount to Coast through a podcast and social media ads. My 100 mile mountain race was cancelled due to hurricane damage. I found a 100 mile race on flatish terrain (bike path, crushed limestone, and sidewalk). I received these shoes the Monday before my race. I was able to put 12 miles on them before race day, and gave them the ultimate test. They held up extremely well. I had no foot issues while racing. I was still able to run at mile 85 until we hit a torrential thunderstorm and was forced to walk most of the last 15 miles. However I was able to experience their endurance even in heavy rain, puddles, and slick paths. I will be testing this pair in more conditions soon. These saved my race! Don’t hesitate to test them out, you won’t be disappointed!

20 Miler Out Of The Box

When these arrived I wore them around for a day and took them for a 20 mile long run the next morning. Absolutely blown away by this shoe.. not a single blister paired with injinji toe socks. Plenty of room in the toe box as a runner that primarily wears Altras. I am a huge believer in the shoe at first trial, and hope the longevity lives up to the expectation as an “ultra” shoe.

CHS 100 race shoe

I have logged over 50 miles in the R1 in the white colorway to date. So far the shoes have handled everything I can throw at them. I have done tempo/interval/recovery runs in them from 6:00 min-11:00 min pace, and they have worked to perfection. I am training for the CHS 100 in December, and these will be my race shoe to cover the distance. The tuned fit lacing system has worked great on my runs, with helping me get a dialed in fit. My normal shoe size is 11, but for ultra's I size up to an 11.5 and they fit perfectly. The midsole is very consistent in that it is balanced between softness and responsiveness. With the grueling impact of a road ultra, these shoes will work great to handle the hard surface for hours on end. Also the reflective panels on the shoe will help with safety as an distance over a 100 miles will have night time segments of running.

My ultra road shoe of choice before the MTC R1's was the Craft Pro Endurance 1's, but I could never get a dialed in fit like I do with the R1's. The R1's cover all of the needs of an ultra road distance shoe, and from here on out the MTC R1 is my shoe of choice for any distance over 50 miles!

R1p up the Record Books

In the spring of 2024, British ultrarunner Justin Montague took one pair of R1s to the northernmost point of Scotland to run the JOGLE, a multistage ultra to the most southerly tip of England. Over 17 daily stages he ran 854 miles (1,374 km) setting a time that was almost 40 hours faster than the previous record, and he broke each day’s individual stage record along the way.
